Malware, phishing and harmful software presents a risk to every day consumers' laptops and desktops. These threats can lead to simple problems like a crash or something as critical as identity theft and financial fraud.

W3 Mobile recently finalized the development of Live Gooroo, a mobile application that will allow users to run anti-virus software on their computers from their smartphones. The cloud-based infrastructure is meant for people with varying levels tech experience, the company explains.

Nearly one out of every two Americans and Western Europeans have a smartphone, and 62 percent of Americans aged 25 to 34 have access to at least one mobile device, according to The Nielsen Company. 2011 marked the first year that mobile device shipments outnumbered those of PCs, and while companies such as Apple have already engaged clients with smartphone-to-PC connections, W3's mobile app is the first one to focus primarily on security.

The company stated in a release that the mobile app makes computer protection simpler, and can save users time. Instead of being at the computer to run anti-software, a person can remotely start the process from his or her mobile phone with a touch of a button.
