The proliferation of mobile marketing techniques has hit consumers in a dramatic way as of late, particularly with the embrace of QR codes by major companies and brands worldwide. According to Mobio, QR code scanning has increased by 4,549 percent year-over-year, a figure revealed in a report called the Whiplash edition.
The report revealed that the number of consumers who have added a QR scanning application to their mobile devices in the past year have boosted by 938 percent since this time one year ago. Most QR code scanners - 68 percent - are women and the average age is between 25 and 54 years old, with most people falling between 35 and 44 years old.
Eighty-nine percent of scans are a result of a consumers' desire to gain more information about a product or service, and 70 percent of scanning comes from social media platforms.
IPhone owners make most of the scans, with iPod Touch and Android owners falling closely behind. IPad and BlackBerry Bold 9700 owners make the least number of QR code scan, the report revealed.
These figures are expected only to grow this summer, as more companies market their summer lines, concerts and major movies with QR codes.
