Internetq is automating data center operations to resolve the complexities of distributed computing and to achieve reliable and cost effective operation. Our strategy is to run a “Lights Out”, “Self-Managed” data center that enables us to meet our business goals.
Monitoring System
The monitoring system is an important building block of operations automation and is designed to monitor our applications end-to-end. Using model-based monitoring our system relates every component that participates in service provision to each other and monitors its performance and availability, so when a problem arises it’s clear which services are affected and which recovery procedures should be followed. Another important function of the monitoring system is the gathering of historical performance and availability metrics that help us proactively respond to issues before they emerge.
Our monitoring platform is integrated with applications, operating systems, storage systems and network devices, and it is able to trigger the execution of recovery procedures, send notifications via e-mail, sms, web and graphically represent the status of monitored services and their interdependencies.
Administrative Process Automation
To achieve our automation requirements several processes have been redesigned such as the deployment of new services and applications and the procedure followed to become production ready. Through the use of formal procedures, project and resource management software and an issue tracking and version control system, every application progresses into production when all supportive operations are in place.
Change management operations are also critical when new services or equipment are moving into production or existing are removed or altered, as they trigger changes to administrative operations. Any kind of change is formally approved and is performed using automated procedures. Operations such as software and hardware updates, major version upgrades and configuration changes are documented using knowledge management system.
